AchieveMath Individualized
Our AchieveMath Individualized program is designed for special needs students, students with persistent and serious learning gaps, and students who generally require more intensive intervention than our small-group instruction provides.
Students receive individualized diagnostic and prescriptive instruction, typically delivered in a 3:1 student-teacher ratio. Individual Learning Plans, based on assessments, address the needs of each student.
Catapult Learning's AchieveMath Individualized program provides individualized intensive intervention for students who demonstrate persistent reading difficulties. While there are three students present at a session, each student works on an individualized prescription based on skills gaps identified through the assessment process. The overarching goal is for students to become more proficient with mathematical concepts, computation, and problem solving, and to directly apply these newly acquired skills in the classroom.
The Catapult Learning AchieveMath Individualized program draws upon the findings of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (2000), the National Research Council (2001), and the National Math Panel (2008). These findings have led to the conclusion that the components of effective supplemental math instruction should address specific content and process standards.
The scope and sequence of the AchieveMath Individualized Program includes targeted instruction in:
- Numeration
- Computation
- Algebra
- Geometry
- Measurement
- Data Analysis and Probability
- Problem Solving
The AchieveMath Individualized program uses a “mastery learning” approach. This approach allows a student to work through skills at his/her own pace to ensure understanding and application of concept knowledge before moving on to more difficult tasks. The mastery learning approach is designed for students to experience immediate success, maintain motivation, and improve performance on individually identified skills. Teachers introduce new skills using through guided practice activities, and then scaffold instruction until a student demonstrates understanding. Students move on to more difficult skills after a series of successful performances on independent practice activities. In addition to direct skill instruction, students are taught strategies to become more skillful readers including: self-monitoring techniques, self-questioning and using graphic organizers.
The AchieveMath Individualized Program incorporates the components identified by NCTM as critical to high quality mathematics programs including:
- A variety of multi-sensory materials
- An emphasis on problem-solving skills
- The use of estimation and prediction
- An integration of technology (see AchieveMath PlusTech)
- Knowledgeable teachers with ongoing support and professional development
- Mathematically rich curriculum, providing students with opportunities to learn important mathematical concepts and procedures with understanding
