Meet the Team: High School Team

Meet the Team
High School Staff

Why did you choose this specific line of work?

We have chosen to work in the special education field because we want to make a difference in the students’ lives and be a positive influence for their futures. As a team, we agree that it is important for society to know that our kids are fantastic individuals with aspirations to contribute to their communities.

What’s a day at Sierra School like for you?

We work together on a daily basis to keep our students focused on their academics despite many challenges both in and out of the classroom. The team also provides help to other students and coworkers when needed throughout the day. We all feel that the most enjoyable part about coming to work each day is finding the improvements in attitude, behavior and academic performance from each of the students.

Can you give an example of a ‘Little Victory’ you’ve seen a student achieve at Sierra School?

A memorable victory this year recently occurred with a student named Marcus. In the beginning of the year Marcus refused to participate in English rotations due to his disinterest in Shakespear’s novel “Romeo and Juliet.” Now Marcus participates regularly and has even finished the reading with the rest of the class! His English grade and ability to analyze textual themes have improved greatly due to this fact.

Another memorable victory has occurred recently with a student named Krishan. Over the past couple weeks Krishan has been able to demonstrate a great amount of self-restraint in the face of potential conflicts with peers. Krishan’s improved behavior has increased the overall positivity in the environment because he is a big influence with the rest of the students.

Can you describe something special about your team and the school?

We truly appreciate our students and the group of staff who work so well together to meet all of their educational needs. We invite you to visit our website (or even better, our school!) to keep updated on the events and positive outcomes that occur in our program.
