Marissa Parker, School Social Worker

Why did you choose this specific field?

I chose this field to help students and their families both inside and outside of the classroom.

Marissa has a Licensed Social Worker and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education

What's a day like for you at High Road School?

My day always begins with greeting students, and then reaching out to parents and meeting with students for their individual sessions. I then hold social skills group at the end of the day as well as support any students in need throughout the day.

What do you enjoy most about coming to school every day?

Seeing the students and working with the students and families to make social emotional growth.

Can you give an example of a ‘Little Victory’ you’ve seen a student achieve at school?

That would have to be hearing a student express how much they appreciated staff on the day they graduated.

Can you describe something special about your team and the school?

No matter how much emotional stressors our students come into school with, staff always provide a warm welcome and are supportive of the students at every moment. The team at our school is very supportive and caring of each other and our students and are empathetic to student struggles and situations. The team works really well as a whole to care and provide for the students academic and social/emotional needs.
