Migrant students are at a unique academic risk–as their families frequently relocate for seasonal employment, students often struggle to keep pace academically with their peers. Language barriers and economic hardship can quickly widen the academic gap for these young learners. Migrant students benefit the most from a structured summer learning model because it provides continuity of instruction, helping kids make sure they don’t fall behind.

During the summers of 2011 and 2012, Catapult Learning provided Summer Learning Leap services at two Palm Beach County Public Schools Migrant Education Program sites.

In 2012, a comparison of pretest and posttest scores revealed positive gains with students’ average scores increasing by 16 percentile ranks in reading and 15 percentile ranks in math.
