Catapult Career Starter Program Helps Student Win Against All Odds

Jelesa Sibert Wins STAR Award

Jelesa Sibart-Catapult Career Starters-10152013

Jalesa Sibert’s life began in foster care, and with physical and emotional ailments that lead to early learning difficulties. Sadly, her problems didn’t end there; as a teenager, she was abused by the adult assigned to protect her. Without a support system or counseling, she dropped out of high school and fell into a life of drugs and other poor choices.

At one point Jalesa decided to turn her life around and approached the Catapult Career Starter Program in Paterson, NJ for help. Not only does Jalesa now have her GED and a new job; she also recently received the Sharon Dutra Memorial Student Training Achievement Recognition (STAR) award, a prestigious honor given to a New Jersey resident who has overcome obstacles to secure employment. Jalesa is the fourth graduate of the Catapult Career Starter Program to be nominated for this award.

We are very proud of Jalesa Sibert for her achievement. We would also like to thank Pedro Tavarez, director of the Catapult Career Starter Program, whose passion for helping people like Jalesa makes a difference in our society.
