Catapult Academy Awards 119 High School Diplomas to Georgia Graduates
The Muscogee County program—opened in fall 2014—graduated 60 students in its first year.
June 3, 2015, Camden, New Jersey – Catapult Learning announced the graduation of 119 students from its three district-approved Catapult Academy programs in Georgia. Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2015 were held in Dougherty and Muscogee Counties and Thomasville, Georgia, in late May.
Owned and operated by Catapult Learning, LLC, Catapult Academy serves students ages 16-21 who have struggled to complete their high school education and need an alternative solution to graduate. Catapult Academy provides a combination of small-group, teacher-led instruction, online learning, flexible scheduling, college admission guidance, and career coaching. Upon graduation from the tuition-free program, students receive a high school diploma from their home school district.
The number of Georgia graduates from the dropout recovery program rose significantly in 2015, with Dougherty County’s graduates increasing from 17 in 2014 to 53 students this year. Catapult Academy of Muscogee County awarded high school diplomas to 60 students in its first graduating class.
“The Muscogee County success rates can be attributed not only to the diligent and meaningful work that [Muscogee Program Supervisor] Mr. King and his staff perform every day, but to the true partnership that exists between the district and Catapult,” explained Levi Williams, Catapult Academy’s Regional Director.
The partnership between Catapult Academy and Muscogee County is a unique model for the dropout recovery program. While student recruitment and site location(s) are typically handled by Catapult Academy, in Muscogee County, the school and the district work together on the marketing and enrollment of students, and the district provides space at the Edgewood Learning Center in Columbus for the program.
“The partnership between Muscogee County School District and Catapult Academy has allowed us to work collaboratively on recruitment and retention efforts, resulting in a quick and effective program start-up and extremely positive first-year results,” stated Stuart Udell, CEO of Catapult Learning. “We have been able to focus on the program goals and top priorities, which include not only increasing the graduation rate, but ensuring that Catapult Academy students graduate with their cohort group.”
This year, Catapult Academy expects to award high school diplomas to 295 students in Georgia and Florida. As the program expands, adding locations in Hernando and Volusia Counties in Florida as well as sites in California in Fall 2015, the company anticipates that the number of graduates—and the partner districts’ graduation rates—will also continue to rise.
