Catapult Academy of Marion County Honors 26 Graduates in Class of 2016
The district-approved dropout recovery program has graduated over 110 students since 2014.
June 1, 2016, Camden, New Jersey – Catapult Learning announced the graduation of 26 students from the Marion County School District-approved Catapult Academy program in Ocala, Florida.
The graduation ceremony for the Class of 2016 was held on Tuesday, May 24, at the College of Central Florida. More than 200 family, friends, and community members attended the ceremony, which featured a keynote address by Teri Little-Berry, College of Central Florida’s Director of Admissions and Records. Graduating senior Alexis Raines was named valedictorian; classmate Tia Mullins was named salutatorian.
Owned and operated by Catapult Learning, Inc., Catapult Academy serves students ages 16−21 who have struggled to complete their high school education and need an alternative solution to graduate. The program provides a combination of small-group, teacher-led instruction, virtual learning, flexible scheduling, college admission guidance, and career coaching. In Marion County, three campuses—two in Ocala and one in Belleview, Florida—enroll nearly 200 students.
“We applaud the amazing accomplishment of these young men and women,” said Andrew Post, Superintendent of Schools for Catapult Academy. “Earning a high school diploma is an achievement that opens doors of opportunity that had once seemed unattainable for many of our students. We are excited for the many successes that await them after graduation.”
Over the past two years, Catapult Academy has graduated 450 students; this year, the program is expected to award diplomas to 250 students in programs throughout Georgia and Florida. As the program continues to expand, the company anticipates that the number of graduates—and the partner districts’ graduation rates—will continue to rise.
