About Our Curriculum 

Catapult Learning’s AchieveLiteracy program is aligned to local, state, and national standards, and uses a scientifically based instructional approach to strengthen the reading skills of students. AchieveLiteracy lessons are delivered in a small-group environment, which aids in meeting the diverse needs of learners. Key features of Catapult Learning’s AchieveLiteracy programs include:  

  • Diagnostic and prescriptive process that identifies instructional objectives aligned to state academic standards based on individual student skill levels and needs 
  • Explicit instruction in comprehension and phonics skills provided in small groups 
  • Close reading and text analysis 
  • Regular instruction and practice with writing responses to text-based questions aligned to state academic standards in Literacy 
  • Practice with decodable text to increase fluency 

The AchieveLiteracy Middle School program (ALMS) is an exhaustive, research-based literacy intervention program for sixth through eighth grades. The program addresses the demands by individual states and the College and Career Readiness Standards for students to be able to navigate, comprehend, and respond to complex texts. ALMS specifically incorporates research-based best practices for middle school instruction, including subject-specific literacy strategies and skill-building for English, social studies, and science texts. Designed to be delivered in a small group setting, teachers use explicit instruction, guided independent and collaborative practice, corrective feedback, frequent formative assessment, and cumulative review to accelerate student literacy skill development. Key features of Catapult Learning’s AchieveLiteracy Middle School program include:  

  • Diagnostic assessment results guide student placement and targeted intervention to the areas of most needed literacy growth 
  • Curriculum trajectory includes separate Toolbox units for strategy development and Content units for strategy application and content knowledge 
  • Objectives aligned to the Common Core Standards based on individual student skill levels and needs and are broken down into discrete performance levels for more specific understanding of student performance and improvement 
  • Explicit instruction in subject-specific comprehension strategies and literacy skills for English, social studies, and science subject areas 
  • Teachers deliver instruction on new concepts with explicit instruction, think-alouds, and real-world contextualization of content 
  • Unit and lesson design accommodates a wide variety of student reading ability and opportunities for improvement within student groups 
  • Writing skills and vocabulary development integrated into each lesson to both improve comprehension and develop writing ability 
  • Flexible student paths through the curriculum to maximize instructional time in areas of need for individual students 
  • Units and lessons promote student agency through curated choices of content, activity, and texts 
  • Students apply skills by choosing from a wide range of texts accommodating diverse interests for better student engagement, featuring age-appropriate characters in high-interest situations 
  • Progressive literacy skill development hierarchized both in terms of importance and individual student need 
  • Student skill performance is assessed and tracked every lesson for aggregated performance data and resulting differentiation 
  • A regularly disseminated summary of school-based learning allows families to engage with their students around the work they have done

Catapult Learning’s AchieveMath program uses a scientifically based group instructional approach to strengthen the mathematics skills of students. Group activities and explorations supported by concrete and real-life experiences, basic skills instruction, and reinforcement are at the core of all Catapult Learning small-group mathematics lessons, which we designed to meet the diverse needs of learners. Some of the key features to AchieveMath are:
