My name is Ms. Koen and I am a new teacher at Sierra Eastern. I am a recent Sacramento State graduate with a Bachelors in Sociology. This is my first year as a teacher for Sierra and I am so excited! I can’t wait to share all the great work my students have been doing!
Our theme for this year is “Under the Sea” and we have been working on a lot of great sea-themed art to decorate our class! Please, come visit us and see our aquarium hall (this is where we take time to relax), hanging jellyfish, and Simon the octopus!
FEBRUARY 2019 HIGHLIGHTS:
For the month of February, we worked on a lot of themed activities, such as Valentine’s cards with quilling accents (great for fine motor practice), an awesome snowman we created from yarn, glue, and balloons, and a black history month poster collage. Our class, along with rooms 1 and 2, also worked really hard on a presentation for our other classes on the famous painter, musician, and poet, Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Our class also enjoyed the Valentine’s day party! They had so much fun dancing and crafting!
In addition, we had fun making some really fun dishes during our cooking time!
We are also starting to go in-depth on alphabet, phonetics, and reading comprehension using specific stories with coinciding activities. The activities and worksheets help guide the student’s attention on the story and help the students decipher context clues that are vital to successful reading comprehension. Our students really enjoyed Goldilocks and the three bears and the stories matching activities.
For the month of March, our class will be heading out on more CBI’s (community-based instruction) and field trips. We will be looking at life cycles of plants, primary and secondary colors, money management, cooking and other independent living skills, and more art (because room 4 loves arts and crafts)!
Please check out our photos below and see all the fun we’ve had in February!
