Thank you for taking a moment of your time for me to introduce myself. My name is Nicolas Smith and I am honored to be your child’s teacher this year. Having been a teacher and assistant teacher in the Special Education field for over 10 years has taught me a lot. One of the main lessons I have learned is that the power is in the relationship and that it is one of my main goals to develop strong relationships with the students in my class and their parents. I believe with all my heart that I am here to meet not only your child’s academic needs, but social-emotional and behavioral needs as well.
There is a lot of activity happening in this classroom. In the next month we will be building upon reading and writing skills through reading, words study, developing descriptive writing and spelling. We will also enhance our number skills in math through the study of place value and comparing an ordering numbers. In social studies we will cover the exploration and colonization of America. In science we will develop our observational skills. A major theme in this class is not only stretching our minds but getting our hands dirty with handmade projects. We will also have our first field trip to Chapparral Park, approximately a ¼ mile walk from school, to enjoy some fun time together and test our ability to participate appropriately on a field trip.
In closing, I look forward to being a part of your child’s school year and thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child’s unique potential.
