Assembly is the staple of our program. This is a vital part of students’ daily routine, when important announcements are made by teachers, staff, and students about daily activities and expectations.
Another core component is Guided Group Interaction (GGI), therapeutic group counseling sessions that concentrate on building students’ basic social skills and providing them the opportunity to take accountability for negative behaviors and norm violations. GGI also gives our teachers a chance to assess current student behavior so they can address potential issues before they arise.
In addition, staff implements multiple systems and processes of support—most notably, organization of our Student Government. We involve students in all aspects of school ownership and pride, like selecting a logo that symbolizes what their school stands for, voting on school colors, and choosing a mascot. Once staff identifies students who are regularly displaying positive behavior, they develop activities specific to those students’ talents, interests, and strengths.
Academy staff and administration show support to students by getting involved in extracurricular activities, like attending the sporting events of students who participate on the sports teams of their home school district.
