The Clarke County School District (CCSD) Learning Center opened its doors for the 2017-2018 school year. The Learning Center services middle and high school students from the Athens-Clarke County School District in Georgia. The Learning Center’s fully certified staff uses programs and structure designed to improve behaviors that impeded academic and behavioral success in their home schools. Life skills and the necessary tools for success beyond the classrooms are taught and developed in the Learning Center. With the ability to serve 100 students in our Alternative Education program, the CCSD Learning Center is committed to creating brighter future for our students, regardless of the learning barriers or other challenges they may face.
In our Alternative Education program, students experience a combination of computer-based learning, direct academic instruction, small group or individualized support, behavior modification and peer accountability with the goal of students returning to their home schools on track academically. In this program, students in grades 6-12 are encouraged to create a positive learning environment and support each other in group counseling sessions. The CCSD Learning Center recognizes the impact of positive peer pressure among students and promotes a culture focused on students giving one another feedback to address peer and school expectations in regards to behaviors.
