Missouri Students Achieve Success in Math and Literacy

Catapult Learning implemented a Title I math and reading success program designed to help students improve test scores and achieve exceptional results in the general education classroom through intensive day, extended day, and summer learning programs. Catapult’s implementation of this program, in collaboration with participating school districts across Missouri, was a rousing success, demonstrating that frequent, consistent, and high-quality instruction delivered in small groups leads directly to significant gains in the classroom.

A Blueprint for Success

High-frequency, intensive instruction has proven to be far more effective in improving ELA and Math scores than a typical, less-frequent intervention program.*

The framework:

• Intensive small-group differentiated instruction
• Intervention strategies involving intentional teaching with modeling, demonstrating, explaining, and coaching
• Sequential activities/scaffolding at the student’s developmental level so skills/strategies are learned systematically
• Gradual release of responsibility through guided practice with a variety of hand-on, meaningful experiences
• Multiple opportunities to apply skills and strategies independently
• Continuous meaningful feedback and targeted assessment at various intervals to guide further instruction

By aiming for more frequent instruction (30-minute sessions, 5 days a week) vs. a typical intervention (30-minute sessions, 3 days a week), the program’s instructional framework serves as a blueprint all schools can follow when implementing and executing a plan of consistent and dedicated instruction.
