How Schools Can Responsibly Spend EANS Funding
EANS funding can be a difference-maker when you allocate those funds toward resources that allow your schools to accelerate their students’ learning, make up lost learning time that resulted from COVID-19, and address social-emotional learning.
What Is EANS?
The EANS (Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools) program is broken into two allocations:
- EANS I: $2.75 billion allocated to non-public elementary and secondary schools as part of the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER II) fund under the CRRSA Act (Dec 2020). Reimbursements for allowable expenses incurred since March 13, 2020, are permitted.
- EANS II: A second $2.75 billion allocation under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act (March 2021). Reimbursements are not allowed under EANS II, but SEAs provide services or assistance to non-public schools enrolling a significant percentage of low-income students most impacted by COVID-19.

How You Can Responsibly Spend Your Schools’ EANS Funds
Here are impactful ways to allocate your EANS funding:
High-Dosage Tutoring and Intervention
Desired outcome: To accelerate learning in literacy and math for all K-12 students through frequent, intensive, small-group or 1:1 instruction.
COVID-19 left millions of students behind in school. High-dosage tutoring and math/literacy interventions are proven methods to close learning gaps more quickly than remediation.
How Catapult Learning can help: Our structured, intensive programs reinforce grade-level content and support struggling learners to help them catch up.
Social-Emotional Learning and Support
Desired outcome: To develop critical 21st-century skills like collaboration, empathy, and critical thinking while addressing students’ emotional well-being.
Social-emotional learning (SEL) positively impacts academic performance, mental wellness, and relationships. SEL programming is a high-impact use of EANS funding.
How Catapult Learning can help: Our SEL programs focus on counseling, family engagement, and professional development to create supportive learning environments.
Coaching and Professional Development
Desired outcome: To support educators and promote behaviors that increase student achievement.
Professional development and coaching help teachers grow their capacities in the classroom and foster positive classroom environments.
How Catapult Learning can help: We offer research-based PD and coaching services tailored to your school’s specific needs.
Summer Learning
Desired outcome: To address students’ academic, social, and emotional needs during the summer, setting them up for success in the fall.
Summer programs mitigate learning loss and keep students engaged. They also provide opportunities for enrichment, SEL, and family support.
How Catapult Learning can help: Our Summer Journey program includes SEL, STEM, literacy, and math interventions, as well as family engagement, to create a holistic learning environment.
