High Road School at Talbot County

Predicated on strong collaboration and communication between school district and our staff, our district programs are designed to provide support and services for students to increase both their scholastic and their social functioning. The students are served in highly structured, therapeutic classroom settings inside public schools. The academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of each student are met through such means as a low staff-to-student ratio, individualized and small-group teaching approaches, counseling services, and a comprehensive behavior management system. Our staff works in unison with district special education and general education teachers to ensure that our students receive the maximum benefit from both district resources and those of our program.

Our Program: The High Road School serves students in grades K-8 with emotional disabilities. We provide both an academic and behavioral model within our classroom to assist us with our goal of supporting students academically, while teaching coping skills and strategies to be successful in general education. Being held within a public school allows us to transition students out at a pace that is appropriate for each individual.

Our clearly defined academic rotation and behavior modification models create an environment of consistency and clear expectations, with the focuses being on differentiating instruction and positive behavior supports.

Our Staff: Our program offers highly-trained certified special education teachers and assistant teachers, as well as regular access to a social worker. A Regional Instructional Specialist supports teachers in assessments, curriculum, and instruction, and all staff are trained annually in crisis prevention and intervention.
