This has not been the year for going it alone.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted lives across all demographics, highlighting the crucial role schools play in society. Beyond academics, schools provide care and structure, which became glaringly evident during this challenging time. For over 45 years, Catapult Learning has supported nonpublic schools with instructional services, professional development, and specialized services. Despite the challenges of 2020, Catapult adapted quickly to meet its partners’ evolving needs.

Archdiocese of Chicago

The Archdiocese of Chicago partnered with Catapult Learning to address pandemic-driven educational hurdles. In August 2020, the partnership expanded to include special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), serving more than 1,000 Catholic school students.

When some students couldn’t return to in-person learning due to health or family circumstances, Catapult developed the eLearning program. This virtual platform provided K-8 students with core classes taught by Catapult teachers while maintaining connections to their home schools through dual enrollment. This innovative solution ensured students retained their Catholic identity and stayed connected to their school communities.

Diocese of Orlando

The Diocese of Orlando maintained in-person learning as much as possible during the pandemic while leveraging virtual learning for students unable to attend in person. For instance, a student participating from New York was able to continue her education virtually while staying connected to her Catholic school in Orlando.

Through its partnership with Catapult, the diocese focused on coaching initiatives to strengthen instructional practices. At St. Andrew Catholic School, a Catapult coach worked nearly the entire school year to improve math offerings. Additionally, Catapult assisted the diocese in navigating CARES Act funding, ensuring resources were maximized for students and teachers.

Archdiocese of New York

The Archdiocese of New York launched an extended learning day program to provide academic and social-emotional enrichment for K-8 students. The free after-school program included math, literacy, STEM, and SEL activities to support personal and academic growth.

Catapult also provided free virtual workshops for parents, offering strategies to improve their children’s wellness and success. Topics included managing anxiety, incorporating IEPs at home, and bullying prevention. These resources supported families during an exceptionally difficult time.

Stronger Together

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Catapult Learning’s partnerships with Catholic schools nationwide have strengthened, equipping educators, students, and families with new skills and resources. These collaborative efforts showcase the resilience of both educators and communities as they continue to adapt and thrive.
