More Than Just Another Trip – My First Women Leading Ed Summit

This week feels a little different than most.
As I packed, I noticed something shift. It wasn’t just the usual routine I can do almost without thinking. This time, I found myself packing both physically and mentally. I slowed down, choosing items with more intention, even small things that I simply enjoy, though no one else would notice. I cleared out my inbox to limit distractions and prepared space to capture thoughts in a way that felt more connected to the pre-work shared to support upcoming discussions. It’s hard to fully explain, but the energy felt different. This time, it felt like I was preparing not just to support others, but to invest in myself as a leader.
I don’t take the opportunity to be here lightly. It’s the result of leaders who chose to invest in me, including one who, years ago, encouraged me to consider a leadership path I hadn’t yet imagined for myself. At the time, I was hesitant. I loved the role I was in and hadn’t thought beyond it. That nudge made a difference, and it’s not lost on me as I sit here now. It also reflects the kind of organization I’m part of, one that values relationships, continuous learning, and staying connected to the real-time needs of education leaders.
One question kept surfacing: How will this experience support my growth?
Of course, whatever I gain will extend to my team, but allowing space for that question feels important. Time to think, reflect, and grow is not always built into the role, yet it may be one of the most impactful parts of it.
So, I packed with intention, cleared distractions, and arrived with a sense of gratitude.
