Chief Executive Officer
Jeffrey Cohen is the Chief Executive Officer of Catapult Learning, a leading provider of special education, supplemental instruction, and professional development programs that works with more than 250,000 students and 25,000 teachers across the country. Mr. Cohen previously served in a number of private and public sector roles. Prior to joining Catapult, Mr. Cohen was the President and CEO of Sylvan Learning, one of the world’s largest networks of tutoring centers and one of the most recognized brands in education and franchising. Before leading Sylvan, Mr. Cohen was a Principal at Sterling Partners, a middle market private equity firm with deep investment experience across the education and health services sectors. Earlier in his career, Mr. Cohen served in several other operating roles. He was the President of Sylvan Education Solutions, the school services division of Sylvan Learning Systems that was later spun off as Catapult Learning. And he was an SVP of Operations at Prometric, a global computer-based testing company. Prior to joining the private sector, Mr. Cohen served in the Clinton Administration. He began his government service as the Chief of Staff for the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the United States Department of Labor, and he later served as a staff attorney in the Office of the Counsel to the President at the White House. Mr. Cohen serves on several nonprofit and philanthropic boards, including Thread, an innovative nonprofit that engages under-performing high school students confronting significant barriers outside the classroom by providing each one with a family of committed volunteers and increased access to community resources. Mr. Cohen graduated from Tufts University with a B.A. in Economics. He also received his M.B.A. from Boston University and his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he was an editor of the Maryland Law Review.
Stephen Freeman is the Vice Chairman of Catapult Learning. He previously held the position of President and Chief Executive Officer. His professional experience—spanning four decades—has focused on the development and management of educationally related services programs for nonpublic and public schools. Stephen is a school psychologist as well as a licensed clinical psychologist, and has practiced as both. Stephen holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master’s degree in School Psychology from Temple University.
Chief Financial Officer
Chris Catalano joined Catapult Learning in December 2016 and serves as the Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Catapult Learning, Chris served in many operational, financial and investment leadership roles in private equity backed organizations. Most notably, Chris served as chairman and CEO of the School of Rock, from 2009-2014 where he built the company into the country’s largest after-school provider in the music education industry. Chris also spent five years as CFO and Chief Investment Officer of McDonald’s Ventures, where his financial expertise led to significant returns to McDonald’s shareholders from some of the best known retail brands, including Boston Market, Chipotle, and Pret a Manger in the UK. As Chairman of the Board of Redbox, he oversaw the growth of that company from its first location to over 12,000 installations. Chris holds an MBA from Rider University and a BA degree in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University.
President, Schools Group
Andrea Vargas joined Specialized Education Services, Inc. (SESI) in July 2004 and now serves as President of Catapult Learning’s Schools Division, where she is responsible for the growth and development of Catapult Learning’s alternative education, dropout recovery, and special education programs. Andrea previously served as CFO for Catapult Learning, as well as the Company’s Controller, Chief Accounting Officer, and Vice President of Finance for SESI. Andrea is an operations-focused, mission-driven executive. Her range of expertise extends from managing lender and banking relationships to implementing cost-saving and revenue-generating initiatives. Previously, Andrea worked as an accounting manager with General Cigar, a $150 million manufacturer of premier cigar brands. Prior to General Cigar, she worked in various finance and accounting functions at several large corporations, including United Technologies, The Stanley Works, and ING, Inc. Andrea earned her B.A. in Finance from Bryant College and her MBA from the University of Hartford. Andrea holds a license as a Certified Public Accountant, in good standing, issued by the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy.
President, Education Solutions
Steve Quattrociocchi joined Catapult Learning in November 2016 and serves as President of the Education Solutions Group. Steve has a long track record of leadership and operational experience in the field of education. Prior to joining Catapult Learning, Steve served as the COO and CFO of Ashford University. He also led technology-enabled education services at the C-level or as Division President at three public higher education companies, where he was responsible for implementing technology solutions to enable meaningful interactions between education professionals, students, and families. Steve also spent several years leading the test preparation business at The Princeton Review through the launch of online learning, an IPO, and international expansion and growth. Steve is a native of Rochester, NY and holds a BS degree from M.I.T. and an MBA from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania.
President, Capital Education Group
Marina Major joined the founding team of Capital Education after 10 years with British Schools of America, a leading provider of British style international education based here in Washington DC. Ms. Major served as both its CFO and COO and was responsible for starting up four schools in the U.S. and assisting in the development of its international school. Ms. Major had oversight and responsibility for all BSA operations, spearheaded its expansion and multimilllion dollar construction projects and served on the school’s board of directors. Previously, she was Director of Administration and International Operations for Micro Analytics Inc., a leading logistics software developer and was responsible for company-wide operations at BT Office Products, where she worked directly for the executive board on corporate development initiatives. Ms. Major received a B.B.A. from the College of William and Mary, majoring in marketing with a minor in Spanish, holds a certificate in accounting from the University of Virginia, and is currently a CPA in the State of Virginia.
Chief Human Resource Officer
Valerie Mogavero joined Catapult Learning in June 2016 as Chief Human Resources Officer. Valerie has more than fifteen years of senior HR leadership and operations experience in the behavioral healthcare industry. From 2005 to 2015, she served as the Vice President of Human Resources at CRC Health Group, a treatment provider for substance abuse services, education programs for struggling teens, weight management issues, and eating disorders. CRC employed more than 5,000 employees in more than 140 locations. While at CRC, Valerie was responsible for taking the HR lead in a number of acquisitions and start-up ventures. Prior to CRC, she held HR leadership roles with companies such as The Renfrew Centers, SunGard, and Arthur Andersen. Valerie earned her B.S. in Business Administration from Drexel University and is an active member of the Delaware Valley’s HR Executive Alliance.
Chief Information Officer
Eric Wenck joined Catapult Learning in 2016 and serves as the Chief Information Officer. Prior to Catapult, Eric was at Sylvan Learning for seven years where he served in various roles including COO, CTO and GM of the digital transformation project that transitioned Sylvan from a paper-based tutoring operation to one that leveraged technology to tutor children. Eric also has held leadership positions in Operations, Account Management and Product Management at Prometric, where he was for 13 years prior to Sylvan. Eric received a B.A. degree in Mathematics from St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Tim Hickey joined Catapult Learning in September 2017 as Senior Vice President of Marketing. Prior to joining Catapult, Tim was the Vice President of Marketing, North America at DFC Global, a consumer and commercial finance provider with over 800 retail branches across North America. His work at DFC included all facets of branding, customer acquisition, and product development & management, including the launch of new lending products that generated over $250M in profitable portfolio balances for the organization. Prior to DFC Global, Tim was AVP of Marketing at Aramark, where he led the marketing function for a $500M division of the company. There his work focused on public-private partnership, market segmentation, and the development of retail service innovation that contributed to consistent new business growth, as well as base business revenue expansion. Tim came to Aramark from Sonitrol Corporation, where he was responsible for customer acquisition, product and pricing for the organization and its 100+ franchise partners. Tim holds a B.A. in English from Dickinson College.
Senior Vice President, Education & Corporate Operations
Michal Kisilevitz joined Catapult Learning in May 2016 as Senior Vice President of Corporate Operations. Prior to joining Catapult, Michal was the Executive Director, Joint Venture Advisory Group, at Water Street Partners, where she was also a member of the firm’s Senior Leadership team. Her work at Water Street included advising executives on governance, strategy, organization and other business challenges, as well as leading the firm’s membership business, where she spearheaded efforts to grow its member base. Prior to Water Street Partners, Michal was a Managing Director at the Corporate Executive Board (CEB), where her advisory work focused on Human Resources, compensation, and benefits. She managed two businesses at the Board, significantly growing the company’s benefits and compensation businesses. She came to the CEB from McKinsey & Company, where she was an Associate Principal primarily advising financial institutions on organizational performance and effectiveness challenges. Michal holds a B.A. in Business Administration and Economics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and an MBA in Finance and Strategic Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
