SEL

SEL: Anxiety

The coronavirus pandemic is stressful for everyone, including parents and children. Fear and anxiety about a disease, especially one that is unknown, can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. How you cope with the stress and anxiety, however, can make you, your child, your family, and your community stronger. This workshop offers tips for recognizing anxiety across age groups and strategies for dealing with it.

SEL: Bullying

Helps families recognize signs and symptoms of bullying; understand the steps they can take to ensure their children are not involved in bullying –either as perpetrators, targets, or bystanders; and identify ways to support their children if they are involved.

Nurturing a Growth Mindset and Perseverance

In this era of high-stakes testing and increased academic pressures in schools, correct answers are too often valued as the measure of success over the learning journey. As a result, students may become risk-averse, where the learning process is overshadowed by fear of making mistakes. This session explores strategies to help parents foster a growth mindset with their child, where risk-taking, mistakes, challenges, and persistence are not only valued but expected.

Incorporating the IEP at Home: Supporting Your Child with Special Needs at Home

Designed to help you set realistic goals for what you can do at home to support your child’s IEP. This workshop offers instructional strategies that parents can use to help children with special needs at home; recommend how parents can structure the day for children with special needs; and, provide parents with external resources that will support their child’s learning needs.

The Emotional Mastery Toolbox – Kids Thrive Here

Emotional Mastery Toolbox (EMT) provides lifelong practical strategies and resources to help families nurture their children’s emotional development as they take control of their feelings and their minds. The program teaches the parent or caregiver how to use various techniques with their child and to create an environment where they can speak as a family about any challenges that arise. Emotional mastery is one of the most beneficial outcomes for both children and adults. EMT starts at the very beginning with foundational self-awareness skills, such as how to identify feelings, followed by strategies to focus the mind and alleviate tension from the body, and finishes with ways to improve self-esteem and confidence. Each concept builds on the next and provides real-life, easy-to-implement activities families can use daily as challenges arise.
