Brandon Galvan, 1:1 Teacher’s Aide

Thank you to Aurora Day School Student Journalist Megan for conducting the following interview with Brandon.

Why did you choose this specific line of work?

Mr. Brandon enjoys working with kids and hearing their stories.

What’s a day at Aurora like for you?

He enjoys the calm and enjoyable environment. He is a 1:1 aide and loves teaching his student new things.  He also, enjoys helping and caring for his students.

What do you enjoy most about coming to school every day?

Mr. Brandon experiences new things with his kids. Every day is a new day for him. He shared a quote from his Grandfather that resonates with him deeply, “This is another one for the books.”

Can you give an example of a ‘Little Victory’ you’ve seen a student achieve at Aurora?

Mr. Brandon helps students control their anger. One student showed a dramatic decrease in aggression since the beginning of school. He helps the students by listening to them and teaching new coping skills.

Can you describe something special about your team and the school?

There is a wide verity of staff who share the same goal to help kids. Mr. Brandon loves the staff at his school. Mr. Brandon stated “They make me feel at home and that I am part of a family.” The staff are compassionate about their work with kids.

Is there anyone who inspires you to do the job you do?

Mr. Brandon’s mom has inspired him to make his own decisions and become independent.

Do you have anyone who has mentored you at Aurora?

Mr. James and Mr. Jay have been very helpful and understanding which helps Mr. Brandon grow personally and professionally.

Have you considered going back to school?

Mr. Brandon currently not in school but he hopes to eventually earn his Doctorate Degree.
