During the 2022-23 school year, AVUHSD in Northern Los Angeles County, CA, recognized the need for a change in culture. Seeking to instill equity, diversity, and inclusion—while mitigating findings of significant disproportionality—throughout the district, AVUHSD sought us out to support them in this initiative. A diverse, inclusive, and equitable institution opens the doors for improved communication, equal opportunity, and school-wide success.
Through its partnership with Catapult Learning, AVUHSD and its new Director of Equity worked to expand the scope and implementation of its equity efforts. During this collaboration, we provided the Director of Equity with ongoing support and coaching as she formulated a district-wide equity initiative. Our Job Embedded coaching provided educators and leadership with hands-on 1:1 support on best practices to implement and refine their approach to creating and cultivating equitable environments.
Our team of diversity, equity, and inclusion experts both emboldened and encouraged district leadership to promote equity throughout the school community, which included strategically placing “Equity Champions” signs throughout the district’s high schools. According to the district, our specialist “embodied and modeled the district’s mission to provide an equitable environment for every student, parent, staff, and community member.” Our support of AVUHSD’s equity efforts will continue over the next two school years.
