Sharing the Love

High Road shared the love on Valentines Day. Students collected personal care items and sorted and packaged them for the residents of Covenant House of Philadelphia. Added to each bag was a card with words of encouragement written by various students who wanted to show respect and unconditional love for the less fortunate youth who occupy the shelter. “It’s so sad that there are so man kids my age who don’t have families or homes. I was glad to do this for them. I like when we do stuff like this,” Khaleahaya Edwards, 9th grader from Gratz Lower, said. [...]

Students Step Up to the Challenge

During the 2018 holiday season, students at High Road School of Philadelphia participated in the third annual End of the Road for Hunger Food Drive. This year staff raised the ante by offering a pizza party for any homeroom that collected over 100 non-perishable food items. Muffins with Mom

Moms and mother figures were invited to indulge in an assortment of muffins and beverages at our annual Muffins with Mom event. This is a special occasion where students can show the special women in their lives how much they are loved. Above that, it's a fun opportunity for moms to spend quality time with their child in a non-academic setting. Students and their moms played games and won prizes. As an added treat, a couple of students showcased their special talents! "I liked winning a prize," 10th grader Takiyah Johnson said. "And spending time with my mom." [...]

Hard-Working Students Usher Eagles Game

Four High Road School students are off to a prosperous start to their school year. In September, they all were hired as unlicensed event staff members with the largest event staff company in North America. Under the guidance of Mr. Demby, Transition Specialist, the students filled out the online application, partook in an interview and successfully completed a 4-hour training session. As luck would have it, their first event was ushering at the Eagles versus Colts game! Deshanta Williams, 11th grader, described her first day as exciting. “At first it was hard getting comfortable enough to tell fans what [...]
