Upcoming Workshops

ELL Strategies for Mainstream Classroom Teachers

October 10, 17 & 24

4 – 5 p.m. Discover research-backed strategies to engage and empower ELLs in your mainstream classroom. Learn how to differentiate instruction, incorporate visual aids, and utilize collaborative activities to foster language development and boost comprehension.

Our experienced instructors will share practical tips on creating a culturally responsive classroom that celebrates diversity and promotes equity. You’ll gain valuable insights into building language-rich learning experiences that benefit all students, regardless of their language background.

Whether you’re a mainstream classroom teacher seeking to enhance your ELL support or an educator eager to create an inclusive classroom for all learners, this workshop is designed to elevate your teaching practices.

Next Generation Science Standards

October 12 @ 4-5 p.m. This introductory session will introduce teachers to the paradigm shift involved with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Compared to previous standards which task students to “describe” or “understand,” the NGSS is built more around practicing science through Science and Engineering Practices and drawing thematic connections through Crosscutting Concepts beyond just the content taught which the standards refer to as the Disciplinary Core Ideas. The NGSS also has a tremendous amount of insight regarding assessment and interdisciplinary learning.

In this session, we will focus on the dimensions of the standards, phenomenon-based learning (a strategy to tackle all dimensions of the standard), and shifts in the Disciplinary Core Ideas to ensure that teachers know the boundary of content ideas in their grade-level. Opportunities to initially plan and pace the year with the Catapult coach will be provided.

Community Spotlight

In a recent gathering, the Diocese of Rockville Centre, encompassing 35 elementary schools, warmly welcomed its new teachers as they embarked on their educational journey. Facilitating this essential step, the Long Island PD Resource Center orchestrated a transformative workshop on the topic of “Growth Mindset.” This intensive two-day event saw an impressive turnout, with nearly 100 educators actively participating. As a result, these dedicated educators are now brimming with enthusiasm and well-prepared to embark on their mission of nurturing young minds!
