Why did you choose this specific field?
I chose the field of counseling to help others achieve their full potential and overcome obstacles in their lives. I rejoice when the dissonance between a desired life and actual life is minimized.
What's a day like for you at High Road School?
My day-to-day includes conducting group counseling sessions, individual counseling sessions, assisting when students are in crisis, consulting with teachers and staff to assist with student behaviors, speaking with parents/guardians concerning student progress and problems, and much, much more!
What do you enjoy most about coming to school every day?
I enjoy being at a school where the students have, or can have, everything they need. They are able to get the most individualized education and can work toward their goals at their own pace. I am honored to work with staff that are so dedicated and do not lose sight of what’s important.
Can you give an example of a ‘Little Victory’ you’ve seen a student achieve?
A student was chronically sleeping in class and was not achieving much academically. She also had obstacles at home. Through consistency of the staff and herself trying very hard to accomplish her goals, she is now staying awake throughout the day and her academics have improved. She is working with the staff now and has developed better social abilities.
What’s something important that everyone should know about your school and what the staff does every day?
Describe what’s special about the team at your school and their passion for the students.
Our teachers and staff never hesitate to step up wherever and whenever necessary. Whether its filling in for somebody else, helping in a classroom, or helping where necessary, our staff members are always looking out for each other and the students.
