An op-ed written by Sarah Strothkamp, Executive Director of Sierra School of Weld County, was featured in The Greeley Tribune, a print and online newspaper that serves Greeley and Weld Counties in Colorado. In the op-ed, It’s Time to Reflect on Inclusion, Strothkamp discusses the importance—and value—of inclusion both for  students with special needs and the community in which the students live. Students from High Road School of Norwalk had the opportunity to tour the Norwalk Fire Department during the month of February. Visits, organized by grade level, allowed the students to walk through the firehouse and spend time talking with the firefighters. Sierra Academy of Scottsdale, which celebrated its grand reopening in early October, was featured in a recent news segment on ABC15 in Arizona. The news featured highlights the school’s focus on helping students with autism and other learning disabilities gain social and life skills, in addition to academics, to prepare them for the real world. In its inaugural year with Summer Journey, Union R-XI School District has seen positive results, from enrollment to test scores to budget surplus, according to several recent articles posted on emissourian.com. The school district saw  over a 100% increase in it enrollment over its 2016 summer program. More than 1,100 students enrolled in the four-week program. Additionally, the district saw significant increase in summer testing scores from students' pretests at the start of the program to the posttest at the end of the program. Maryville R-II School District’s Summer Journey program was featured in a recent article in the Maryville Daily Forum, a local newspaper in Maryville, Missouri. The school district, which has run its own summer program in past years, adopted Catapult Learning’s Summer Journey for its 2017 summer school program. The result was a dramatic increase in elementary enrollment, from 195 elementary students in 2016 to 316 elementary students this summer. Union R-XI School District is one of 35 Missouri school districts participating in Summer Journey, Catapult Learning’s summer program that enrolls nearly 25,000 Missouri students each year. The Union School District, which has offered a summer program in the past but adopted Summer Journey for 2017, was recently featured in an article on emissourian.com.
