Goodwill’s GOODworks Program

High Road School of Delaware’s transition department is partnered with Goodwill’s GOODworks Program. Through job readiness and soft skills training and development, and a variety of other services, Goodwill prepares students for positions in industries including retail, banking, hospitality, food service, packing and assembly, and manufacturing. Goodwill counselors and High Road School’s transition coordinator work one-on-one with students to identify training needs and provide the support services for every person to achieve the most from their abilities. Independence Seaport Museum

Ms. Sam's environmental science class visited the Independence Seaport museum in Philadelphia. Our students are currently learning about the importance of keeping our environment clean and the impact that humans have on their environments. The students participated in the River Alive! exhibit that explained how the Delaware River Valley connects habitats from the Catskills to Delaware. While in the museum the students learned about the different areas of the Delaware River Valley, the animals that inhabit it, and what a healthy river ecosystem looks like. Abbotts Mill Ecosystem Field Trip

Following an exciting Science unit on Ecosystems our Southern Delaware and Sussex County schools combined for a stream study at Abbotts Mill Nature Center, in Milford Delaware. The students followed stations through out the park with an instructor. They tested the PH of the water, collected water samples for further study, and noted the animals in the ecosystem around them! Cave Paintings for Art

In Ms. Rose and Ms. Jess' art class the students are learning about cave paintings. The most notable paintings are found at the caves of Lascaux in Southern France and Altamira in Northern Spain. ELA Project Based Learning

This school year, our 8th and 9th graders have been working on a project based on an argumentative essay A Quilt of a Country by Anna Quindlen. During this project the students did a close read of the text and highlighted supporting details that supported the argument that Quindlen presented, smaller communities come together to create a whole country. They then identified what kinds of supporting details were used throughout the text with different colored pencils.
