Career Day

On April 10, 2019, Sierra Academy and Springall Academy teamed up to host the annual Career Day Fair event for our students. We had 13 vendors with different jobs come out to allow students the opportunity to learn about the people in our community. These vendors included a Padres Human Resources Assistant, a Florist, two Starbuck's Baristas, a Magician, and more! They were able to talk to each vendor about their job so that they could gain a better idea of what their future might hold. The students participated in a "career day bingo" game that helped them to ask [...]

Helping Students With Autism Reach Their Goals

Amy Farmer, Education Director at B.E.S.T. Academy, recently wrote an opinion piece in the The CT Mirror entitled "Helping Students With Autism Reach Their Goals." "While our students might interpret the world differently, their thoughts, fears and hopes are no less important. It’s part of our job to ensure they reach their goals. To help our students prepare, we encourage participation in our Transition program, which provides the opportunity to gain real jobs skills while working for [...]

Inclusion is important for everyone and individuals with autism should not be left out." – Thomas Roberts, Program Director, Sierra School of Main [...]

When your child’s education calls for a holistic approach

All students have dynamic needs, but when traditional education isn’t working for your child, it may be time to consider alternatives. Often educators look to add academic or behavioral interventions but fail to program strategies that support students’ holistic needs. When educators take a holistic approach that utilizes an individualized, multifaceted program, students can excel beyond expectations. When a student enters a Catapult Learning program, we find it imperative to get to know the student and parents/guardians and obtain a deep understand of the student’s educational history. This information allows us to customize assessments which will equip us [...]
