Amy Beirne, Certified Special Education Teacher I did a lot of volunteer work in college working with kids: after school programs, partners in reading through the local library, child advocate, and volunteer work at the juvenile detention center. A Silver Accomplishment

Robert J. is a 13 year old 7th grade student at the High Road Lower School in Lanham, MD. Robert has been a student at High Road for 2 years. Robert is a silver level student, and has made great progress in the areas of grades, following directions, respecting staff and socializing with peers. Robert is a great student and classmate, and is willing assist students with class work, class projects and individual work. Student Highlight – Skyler

This month we would like to showcase one of our bright and promising seniors at Snow Hill High School. Skyler just turned 18 and has begun thinking about his plans and goals after high school. His hobbies are video gaming, talking with friends in online forums, and creating funny memes. He hopes to one day become a detective, but is also working on becoming an author/illustrator in the World of Fantasy. Skyler has always enjoyed writing as a creative outlet. Read-a-thon

Sierra's Read-a-thon in March was a great success with our students reading nearly 10,000 minutes or 167 hours outside of school!  Many students earned reading certificates and homework passes.  The following fourteen students read enough minutes to earn a pizza party:  Josiah, Sonny, Annalise, Meayva, Andre, Simon, Saul, Andres, Bryce, Emilie, Jessica, Julianne, Kaitlyn, and Lesly.  The top readers for each class are:  Sonny, Josiah, Joey, Meayva, Saul, and Julianne.  These students earn a book of their choice! A new partnership that will change the way teachers across the country teach reading

A new collaboration between The University of Oregon and Catapult Learning is laying the foundation for improving curriculum and teaching approaches in schools across the country. Our High Road Hartford Primary Student of the Month for March is Emanuel! Emanuel is a 6th grade student in Mr. Dilella’s class. Emanuel has been a part of our program for the last two school years.
